I'm 5'8", 143lbs and shaped like a rectangle. I ordered a medium because I comfortably wear a medium in most tops and bottoms. The waistband on these shorts is high and very SNUG. It's downright constricting. Going up a size would probably help, but it's also just that the waistband is wide and covers the entire space between the bottom of your ribs and the top of your hips. This functions like tummy control shorts, which definitely flattens out my little mom pooch, but it's less great for situations in which I have to breathe, like running.Aside from the overly snug waistband, these are great. The material is soft and dries quickly. The pockets are awesome and fit my entire cell phone, a credit card and keys.
